Kroger Receives Higher Sustainability Rating From CDP

Kroger Co. said its climate disclosure score rose 48 percent, or an increase of 29 points, to 89 points out of 100, as measured by the Carbon Disclosure Project, compared with the previous year. Also, Kroger revealed it was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index-North America for the third consecutive year.

Lidl Launches MSC-Certified Whole Lobster In UK

Lidl began selling wild-caught whole lobsters certified by the MSC. Launched in Lidl stores across the UK, the lobsters are sourced from a fisher in New Brunswick, Canada. Lidl has cooperated with the MSC for the past year to expand its range of certified sustainable seafood products. Forty-one percent of its wild seafood products are certified by the MSC, a 24 percent increase from 2014 level, with 100 percent of its fresh wild-caught fish MSC-certified.

Unilever Ghana won the CSR Manufacturing Company of the Year award at the CSR Excellence Awards held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. Inspired by the European CSR Excellence awards, the Ghana CSR Excellence Awards seeks to highlight companies’ socially responsible activities in Ghana. Unilever’s achievement of zero non-hazardous waste to landfill helped the company earn the award.

Metro Group Earns Climate-Reporting Honors From CDP

Metro Group was recognized as Sector Leader Consumer Staples and as Index Leader MDAX in terms of climate reporting by the nonprofit group CDP. Metro Group’s ranking was based on how effectively it addresses the “risks and opportunities inherent in climate change” and how transparent is its reporting about this. By being transparent about its data related to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions and reduction measures, the company earned a spot in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index DACH, which highlights the top 10 percent of 350 companies evaluated in the German-speaking region.

Unilever Is Most Sustainability-Friendly Company, Survey Of Experts Shows

Unilever is the world’s leading company in terms of promoting and achieving sustainability, according to 20 percent of sustainability experts surveyed by GlobeScan and SustainAbility. Citing its commitment to achieving zero net deforestation by 2020, a part of Unilever’s Sustainable Living campaign, the respondents said the company has “achieved the most real, substantial advances.” Electric car maker Tesla came in second, followed by furniture company Ikea, technology company Google, and consumer appliances manufacturer General Electric tied for third place. Results of the survey revealed 90 percent of respondents said they expected the UN’s Climate Change Conference to result in a global agreement; however, only a third believed the deal would have “binding power” to bring about real changes.

Henkel Focuses On Products' Use Phase To Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Henkel said its products offer the biggest potential for saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions, helping the company achieve the goals of its Factor 3 sustainability initiative. Seeking to help the company become three times more efficient by 2030, the program highlights Henkel’s sustainability strategy of achieving more with less. With up to 90 percent of the its products’ environmental footprint created during the “use phase”, Henkel focuses on products and technologies designed to help consumers save energy while using them. Its Persil Kalt Aktiv laundry detergent, for example, comes with ingredients that help consumers achieve cleaning results at lower washing temperatures.
