Coca-Cola Goes Global With Its Reverse Vending Machine “World Without Waste” Program
July 3, 2018: 12:00 AM EST
As part of its long-term “World Without Waste” goal of recycling every PET bottle and aluminium can it produces, Coca-Cola is rewarding customers who return used beverage containers to its army of Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs). Earlier this month the company used the occasion of the 50th anniversary 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle to promote the initiative. Each container returned to an RVM triggered a 5¢ donation to Special Olympics Washington through the Coca-Cola Give platform. Participants were prompted to text the word “give” to learn about more opportunities to support local communities. Coca-Cola is conducting various versions of the promotion at music and sports events around the world, including recently Singapore, the U.K., India, and Bangladesh.
