Suntory Announces 100% Plant-Based PET Bottle Prototypes

December 3, 2021: 12:00 AM EST
As part of its goal to use 100% sustainable PET bottles globally by 2030, Suntory Group today announced it had created a prototype PET bottle made from 100% plant-based materials. The prototype has been developed for its best-selling bottled mineral water brand in Japan, Suntory Tennensui, and the Orangina brand in Europe. The innovation is a result of a nearly 10-year partnership with Anellotech, a US-based sustainable technology company. Suntory says it aims to eliminate all petroleum-based virgin plastic from its global PET supply chain and to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
